This is the last class we will have in the classroom and we had the end of the quarter potluck. Once again, there was good variety of food and I ate too much. While we were eating, we went over each of the poster boards and critiqued it. It was mainly on the design of the board, since we couldn’t read it. Mine and Stephanie’s board needed some color, it was gray and we changed it to blue. Other boards needed captions for pictures or needed to format it differently. We have to send our final draft by Friday 8AM, so that they can be sent to the printer and be ready for the Healthy Aging Symposium on Wednesday, June 6th.
This was also the last reading discussion for the book of short stories, Worlds of Difference. This was basically the public health aspect of aging, which most of us do know. It is what we have been studying in college as public health majors, or hear about when health rights are brought up. There is a lot to say and a lot to be done for this type of topic. The discussion went in to smoking and tobacco, addictions, and the determinant factors of health.
Remember the Debunking Ageist Stereotypes that were due a few weeks ago. Never mind, we didn’t present it yet so we quickly did in class. We watched a funny news report about how students view elders, a magazine on awesome seniors, a song about aging, and a website. Micah, Stephanie, and I made a pamphlet about the myths and facts of aging. We also passed out these pamphlets to our friends and on library walk a few weeks ago. I hope people learned something from it.
