Elaine, Estela, and Fred helped us with the finishing touches and shared with me the winners of the Oscar trophies and who will be crowned Prom King and Queen. These were decided by the West Center staff. When Prom started, we all served the food to the seniors right to their tables. There was pizza from Costco, bananas, cookies, cuties, candy, and different juices. Since they just had lunch, a lot of the seniors just saved it for later. The singing group at the West Center, the “Serving Senior Singers”, performed too. It was very cute and I believe a few of the seniors in the audience shed some tears.
We then announced the winners of the Oscar trophies. The categories and winners were funniest senior (Frankie), most artistic senior (Lisa), most kind senior (Caroline), friendliest senior (Bea), most fashionable senior (Elaine), and best senior storyteller (George). This was something new to the agenda, and I am really glad that everyone enjoyed it. Prom King and Queen, King John and Queen Marie. They had their first dance together, which was so cute. Then everyone else, that wanted to, started dancing and the prom took off.
A lot of the seniors enjoyed the photobooth and took multiple pictures with multiple people. We all just love polaroid photos. They loved that they could take it with them. My friend, that isn’t a part of LCS but wanted to come and went to the Casa dance also, and I went around the room to take photos. We were able to take a few of a woman who couldn’t walk to the photobooth. She wanted one with her friend and her dog, which was very sweet. The finale of the Prom were the raffle prizes, I think there were over 25 prizes. When a senior won, it was so touching and you could see the excitement in their eyes.
The Prom came to an end and we passed out the goodie bags as the seniors walked out. We received a lot of thanks and appreciation from the seniors. Some of the seniors even helped with cleanup, even when we refused it. They were the seniors that often volunteer and cleanup everyday. I love that the seniors at the West Center are so full of life and enjoy even the little things. Overall, I think the Senior Prom was a success and both the students and seniors had a lot of fun.
