I thought that was a very creative title and was very proud of myself for thinking of it HAHA.
These past two quarters, Cindy, Abigail, Leo, Martin, Danny, and I have been working on our Healthy Aging Project (HAP) titled “Living, Creating, and Sharing (LCS) Memories.” We’ve been interviewing older people, hearing their perspectives and life stories concerning the past, present, and future. It’s been extremely interesting listening to my interviewees’ responses to all the questions. The responses that have stuck out to me the most have been to the question: “Is there a message you would like to share for young college students about life, the world, or anything in general?” I don’t want to give away their exact responses before our project is due, but they’ve all mentioned about living life to the fullest, especially while we’re young. Even though it’s been difficult to do that since we’re in a pandemic, when thinking back to my life pre-pandemic, I can’t say I lived life to the fullest in all aspects. Academically and professionally, I’d like to say that I took every opportunity that was presented to me; but socially, in terms of going out, hanging out with friends, exploring San Diego, I can’t say I fully did. While school is very important, there were times when I wished I did go to that movie premiere at midnight instead of studying the night away or I did take the MTS somewhere for a day trip instead of stopping myself as I would be alone. While it took some time to adjust, at the beginning of Winter Quarter my second year, I finally found the balance between school and going out/self-care/living life to the fullest. For one class, I had a field trip to see how long it took me to take public transit from UCSD to Downtown San Diego, and I made a trip out of it. I finally walked around and truly explored everything from Little Italy to Seaport to walking around Downtown in general all in a few hours! That was such a fun day, and I got to do both work and play! I feel like in the beginning of quarantine, I lost that balance. I would just constantly do work, and if I wasn’t doing work, I didn’t know what to do. However, this past week, I’ve been finding my balance again. A few days ago, I went to my classes in the morning, practiced self-care in the afternoon, and did some work at night. With all that being said, I know that I’ll be living life, as a whole, to the fullest after June 15 as everything is in-person again.
