We are halfway through this quarter and I can’t believe how fast it’s passing by. So far we’ve finished our project of Debunking Ageism and still have our Zoom Cafe next week, Neighborhood Project, Group HAP, and finishing our book clubs. I have yet to present my project on Ageism but it’s finished and currently published. I made a web page to display my information debunking the myth that all older adults are destined to become dependent and need constant assistance to live actively. Instead of combating this myth with statistics I interviewed my Mom’s closest friends, who I’ve known since I was born, about their perceptions of ageism and about how dependence and independence influences their lives. Through my webpage I summarized what we all talked about in our zoom interview to show how they exemplify that this age group is no more dependent than any other age group. All people depend on others in different ways at all stages in life so assumptions like this are harmful and only work to presume/assert limitations on people. My project calls for a shift in focusing on how we can make our communities more age friendly and living spaces adaptable to the wide range of support people in all age groups may need.

Next week we have our Zoom Cafe and the room I’ve signed up for is dedicated to talking about travelling. I’m always interested in hearing about people’s travelling experiences because I haven’t flown anywhere outside of the US. Both my parents did all their worldly travels (in the Navy and with family) before they met each other and me. The world is so big and I might hear about places I’ve never even thought about travelling to. I think you can learn a lot about yourself and about the world when you travel. I want to do a solo trip or two in my future much like my Aunt Fran has done several times because I think it would be such an experience. I’m very excited to hear about what travels have impacted people the most
