This is my last blog post. Yesterday, we presenting our Gateway Growing HAP after more than a quarter of planning, changing plans, executing two programs and poster making. It was amazing to see so many people attend Symposium of the UCSD Center for Healthy Aging. All my class-mates posters looked so bomb!!! I am so proud of how everyone’s HAPs turned out. My HAP team was the greatest group of people I could work with and I thoroughly enjoyed working with them this quarter. We had many elders come up to us and ask us about our projects and just have general conversation with us about the LCS program as well! It reminded me of an incident the week before when I met a girl who is a 3rd year public health major like me. She encouraged me to join the Life Scholars Program as she had just applied for it as well. I told her I’m currently in it right now and that she made one of the best decisions to apply as this class is honestly my favorite class in UCSD thus far.
Even though my time in this two-quarter class has come to an end, I will never stop being a Life Scholar. To all my fellow scholars, thank you for making class something I looked forward to every week, the laughs, off-campus visit talks, support for all our projects, collective struggles, and life-long friendships. Thank you to two hard-working TA’s: Rhiannon and Natalie who supported and helped us greatly. Professor Bussell and Professor Lewis, thank you for being amazing and lively professors and for tolerating all my spam emails!! Your dedication to this program is very inspiring to me as you made sure each and every one of us succeeded to the best of our abilities. The next cohort is very lucky to have you both as their mentors. I cannot wait to visit and see how the future scholars prosper and join us as lifetime advocates for elders!
