8th Week in the Life Course Scholar’s lecture class was filled with many beautiful stories and discussions from our visit to the LGBT center in Hillcrest, but it was also shocking that one of my peers had a different experience. Mostly everyone had great stories to share, for example I really liked how everyone has a chance to speak to at least one person at the center and have them tell them something about their life. It is always beautiful to hear other people’s life and how they have gone through so much in life but that does not stop them, they do not give up on whatever is going on in their life. On the contrary they have these amazing community centers that bring them together like family to support one another and simply have an amazing time. Going onto discussion we also saw how a lot of people in this community at Hillcrest just like La Jolla had a lot to say about transportation but they also had their differences. For example, the community in La Jolla (Casa de Mañana) felt like they needed closer transportation, trolley that passed through where they lived and how accessible an uber or lyft can be. On the contrary people in Hillcrest thought that transportation was easy but services like uber and lyft were not as simple, technology is so advanced that not many know how to use it. Although there are differences in transportation, it is still a key issue that needs to be resolved.
After discussing our visit to Hillcrest we also got the opportunity to have Dr. Bussell have one on ones with each group to get feedback on our posters. It not only was super nice for Dr. Bussell to do this but it was also very helpful because we got great quality feedback. I think one of my biggest concerns for this poster was trying to incorporate all the WHO’s frameworks, but one of the other groups gave us an idea of how to incorporate them all, however towards the end we didn’t use two of them because we did not really see those frameworks in Barrio Logan. Aside from that, it was great being able to put this together, I had never done a poster therefor this was a great experience and now I know how to put one together
