All the planning, adjusting, and occasional mishaps throughout this quarter all led up to the Senior Prom at Gary Mary West Center. To hear thank-yous given with bright smiles from these individuals completely made my entire quarter. This week was indeed hectic with all the arranging and assembling but it was entirely worth it to see such joy in the face of these seniors.
Setting up was a pretty smooth process that pulled together to reveal our wonderful fairytale theme prom. With all the extra hands, we were able to assemble everything together quite efficiently-- from setting up the food, arranging the activities corner, and taping up decorations. My favorite moments from this event had to be the dance lesson the seniors had the chance to participate in with UCSD’s Salsa club, and the raffle! The blueberry cheesecakes and photo booth were a hit with the seniors as well! Joey was a wonderful emcee who kept the event going and the seniors engaged. Even when last-minute details were forgotten, like the music arrangement, everything pulled together in the end without any problems. When the event came to a close and the seniors began to leave, we were able to pass out gift bags. Every single senior said thank you, and this gratitude was extended to us having planned the prom for them. But I am the one who feels grateful. To see our seniors all so willing to participate and have fun with us made this an event I had to share about to all my friends and classmates!
Planning this event was no doubt more difficult in some ways but something I would do all over again to see warm smiles and joyous laughter of our seniors fill the room of Gary Mary West Center.
