I had a great time at the Casa de Manana Dance. By the time I arrived, my fellow classmates had already finished setting up the decorations and were handing out raffle tickets as the residents started coming to the dance floor. Overall, it was quite lovely seeing people of all ages coming together to dance. No one in the room seemed excluded; everyone seemed involved. Once it was time to start handing out gifts, Jessica and Micah did an amazing job in getting the residents involved in the raffle ticket process, by simply giving residents the chance to randomly choose the next raffle winner. As professor Bussell predicted last week, the residents seemed overjoyed with the gifts. I honestly do not think the residents expected to have received any gifts from us, but the fact that they gained something extra that they can cherish forever, just made the event even more meaningful to them. For this reason, I do think the Casa de Manana Dance was a success, even without the dance performance piece that we were expecting to bring for the residents. Plus, I do not think many of the residents would have participated in the dance routine, if we were have brought a UCSD Dance Instructor, because based on what I observed, many of the residents seemed more interested in observing the music performance, rather than dancing along with the music. In summary, based on the wonderful experience I had at Casa de Manana, I cannot wait to attend West Center Senior Prom next Saturday. Hopefully, I get a chance to see the same residents I saw last time, and ask how they’ve been since I last saw them. :)
