This weekend we threw our intergenerational senior prom at the Gary and Mary West Center. Overall, I wish that the event could have lasted longer because it would have been nice to spend more time with attendees and get to know them better. However, the event was still enjoyable and I think that most people who came left feeling happy.
I was on the food committee, so I spent my time preparing for the event by coordinating donations and making food. We were fortunate to get donations from a few local grocery stores, which really helped with our budget. With giftcards and food donations we got, we were able to provide sandwiches for each attendee to take home with them, as well as food to eat at the prom itself. Some of my peers made delicious mini cupcakes and cheesecakes, we were provided with mini cookies, and we got some fresh fruit to slice up to give to each guest. We also gave guests the option of lemonade or iced tea, which they seemed to enjoy.
At the event, attendees weren’t allowed to choose their own food, which was a bit disappointing since we laid it out nicely on the table and we wanted them to be able to pick the things they liked. However, we made it work and many were able to enjoy seconds of certain foods.
The other committees did a great job of decorating and providing activities, and Joey did a great job as the MC!
