YAY! WE DID IT! Two quarters of the Life Course Scholars Program is officially over and I could not be more grateful for this opportunity. It’s one thing to learn about the aging process or the San Diego community through lectures or readings, but it incredibly impactful when we went out to different communities to actually experience snippets of the seniors’ life and converse with them. We held our Intergenerational Walkathon last Saturday, and it went so well! I am so proud of our group for pulling it off and hopefully providing a great starting point for a bigger and better walking event for next year.
As a graduated Life Course Scholar, I’ll never forget the wonderful conversations I had with all the seniors and will always hold onto their life advice, wisdom, and the stories they have shared with me. Through all the site visits and events we have held, I found a common theme: seniors are more robust, independent, and carefree than what most people believe them to be like, and all they want is to have their voice heard & to not be forgotten. Their struggles and worries are similar despite having vastly different backgrounds, and I will keep all these thoughts in mind as I aspire to work in the healthcare field to encourage a healthier and happier lifestyle for people in all walks of life.
Thank you to my fellow LCS’ers, the TAs, and professors for this incredible learning experience!!
