On the 11th, we had our Love, Connect, and Care event at the Gary and Mary West Center. We each contributed to the event in some way, and I chose to run the baked goods station. To try to make sure there was enough for the event, I made a lot of food! I found a recipe for lemon pound cake and coffee cake. In addition to these, I also made brownies. I bought brownie mix after I had made the other food because I wasn’t sure if there was going to be enough. It turns out that I made the right choice because they turned out to be the most popular food I brought! Thankfully, some others brought some baked goods as well. Haley brought cookies and Professor Lewis brought Russian tea cakes. By the time the event wrapped up, everything was gone and it seemed like there were plenty of happy people with full stomachs. Over the course of the event, I also gave some treats to my fellow LCS’ers. Overall, the event was a lot of fun and I am glad we had it.
Lastly, I presented my oral history project to the class. I didn’t realize how quickly the seven minutes for the presentation would go by! There was a lot that I wasn’t able to share, but I also know I said plenty. In addition to sharing some of my grandma’s story, I was also able to hear the stories of my classmates’ EPs. I could tell how impactful this project was to everyone. There were some really clever presentations with things like a pocket book, a playbill, and a diorama. It was very interesting and heartwarming to hear all of these stories of overcoming hardship and finding joy in life.
