During week 2’s class of the Life Course Scholars program we planned our group healthy aging project and brainstormed ideas for our individual healthy aging projects. For our group healthy aging project we are hosting a senior prom at the West Center. Our theme gives off enchanted forest vibes and will have a lot of string lights. Other themes that we almost did were the Roaring 20s and Disco. We have 3 committees: food/ drink decorations / goody bags, and activities. I am on the food and drink committee. We are going to have a desert bar, mocktail station, and food that the seniors can take home since they don’t get dinner that day. We are trying to consider the needs of others as much as possible, such as those who are lactose intolerant, vegan, or have sensitive teeth. That is why we are planning on bringing soft fruits and making the pastries as vegan as possible. The committee wanted to definitely give the seniors at the West Center healthier options to eat from. It is kind of hard to find a take home meal for them that fits our budget and is healthy. I am currently asking Which Wich and Subway if they would maybe donate to our event. Planning this event made me realize that there’s so much that goes into event planning. Also, I realized that things just get very expensive since there’s going to be a huge turnout. I am very excited to see the final product of our hard work.
