As I reflect on this past quarter, I think of the valuable moments I have had in spending time collaborating with others on projects, which I find enjoyable. Collaborative projects weren't just limited to this class, however, I feel fortunate enough to be able to work collaboratively in a team with three others in my Health Project Management class (MGT 173), which has been a fun learning experience. Additionally, I find that I am able to work in teams outside of classes, like CALPIRG and CovEd. I know that I have overcommitted myself this quarter because I have honestly not been getting the proper sleep I need. My days are distracting because my little sister often bothers me with her school work or Kumon work, and I have had to make time for my extracurriculars, like CALPIRG (which I think took most of my time), CovEd, and my Intermission Orchestra. On the other hand, my nights are times when I find that I can settle down with myself to do necessary tasks, but this is after my little sister allows me to take a shower and brush my teeth because she just doesn’t let me do these activities freely, which is really annoying. *sigh* I wish I were back in San Diego.
Anyways, back to the Life Course Scholars Course. I found out, from my meeting with a Global Health advisor, that this course was able to help me fulfill the field experience requirement (as long as I request a verification letter near the end of this course). I am so glad that I don’t have to stress so much about having to fulfill this requirement with something else because that would add some worry.
I feel so delighted to be working with Abigail, Danny, Martin, Leonardo, and Allyn on the Healthy Aging Project. Together, we plan to gather some interview responses with some older folks from senior living communities. We, however, have gotten caught up with some dilemmas. It seems that we aren’t quite sure how we are reaching out to senior communities to recruit more older folks to participate in the project because of our disorganization. I think that we might need to assign people to reach out to certain communities around San Diego. We also found that some seniors who aren’t familiar or comfortable with zoom may be reluctant to meet in a video call, so we were thinking of having the alternative of having them record their voices in response to the questions that we send them regarding the topic of our video. During class, we discussed the possibility of collaborating with Jenny in her project to help promote computer literacy among the older folks. We also thought of creating a typed up guide with photos or screenshots to show seniors how to use Zoom or Google Hangouts. In regards to how many seniors we have interested in participating in the project, we found three seniors. I believe there must be further coordination to solidify our plan on how exactly these interviews will be conducted, so this project wasn’t as straightforward as I thought it would be. Nevertheless, I am curious and eager to know how these interviews will turn out.
Since the end of the quarter is near, with finals coming up next week, I wanted to share some of my highlights with my pet hamster (Mercury) and my pet bearded dragon (Hydra) with photos and a video of Mercury yawning.
