Although online school has been rough itself, the pandemic has far more impacted the amount of human interaction I’ve had -- going from a dorm living with my friends in the same room to only seeing names on Zoom was definitely a change. I’ve been missing the in-person elements of life especially considering that this won’t be over for some time. I never thought about how much I’d miss the small interactions -- smiling at someone who moved out of the walkway, holding a door open for someone behind me, offering a pen in class. So, I was so thankful for the opportunity to meet the professors and some students from our class today on campus. It was great to match Zoom names to real faces for the first time since we’ve moved to an online setting.
Likewise, I’m also grateful for everyone who helped set up the event. I’ve been feeling like a couch potato since I rarely leave my house, and it was great to have made some small impact today helping put together the goodie bags for the community centers. I don’t know about anyone else, but I haven’t been feeling like I’ve contributed much to society since everything has been converted to online, so today was definitely a morale booster. I feel much less couch potato-y today and I hope that we will soon be able to be back in person and have real human interactions again! Until then, I’ll just talk to my dogs as if they were human.
All jokes aside, today was an amazing opportunity and I’m really thankful for the professors who set everything up!
