It’s week 2 and I managed to go to the right building. The previous and first class, after getting breakfast with my friend in ERC, I ran all the way to HSSB in Muir when the class is actually at SSB, which is in ERC. But this time, I was able to have a clear mind from the beginning to the end of class, as opposed to last week when I was all over the place.
In class, we brainstormed ideas for the group HAP. Honestly, I kind of dreaded the idea of brainstorming during class because in my mind, I thought that everyone would be too shy to speak and pitch their ideas. But I was pleasantly surprised to see almost all my peers confidently throwing in their ideas about themes, decorations, and food. Planning this Intergenerational Prom Night made me think back to my high school prom— my prom was an excuse for me to put on the nicest dress I own and put on an excessive amount of makeup and hairspray. That night was a chance for me to really feel good about myself and basically show myself off! I hope that this intergenerational prom will allow for each individual to reminisce back to their own high school prom and not only remember what it looked, smelled, and sounded like, but also remember the anxiety and excitement of going into the dance after spending time to look their best.
I signed up for the Food Committee for the group HAP. Though I don’t usually cook anymore, I knew that this would suit me best because I love eating food and I want to be eating good while we’re at the event. I’m really excited to bake the desserts and try to successfully score some free food from Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s for the event.
