Putting together our scientific poster to share our Healthy Aging Project, “Art from the Heart” was quite fun for me to do! I liked being able to break down the logistics of how we came up with the event, steps that led up to conducting it, participant experiences, and explaining our lessons learned. I’m excited to be able to share our experience with others at the Healthy Aging Symposium and to have this poster as a guide for future Life Course Scholars to utilize if they desire to continue the program. I appreciate being able to show the poster to the class and receive feedback on tweaks we could make to improve our poster’s look and content. Often, we miss small things as we try not to forget vital aspects of the poster. I believe taking the time to review the poster proved to be very helpful. It was also really nice to see everyone’s Debunking Ageist Stereotypes projects! I loved how everyone approached the assignment in different, creative ways. I enjoyed the creative liberty we all had in designing our own projects and choosing various ways to depict ageism and debunk the myths related to it.
Filling out the End of the Year survey allowed me to take the opportunity to reflect upon all that I’ve learned and how much I’ve grown this year. I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated this program’s ability to increase my knowledge regarding the community of San Diego, teach me various aspects regarding aging, and allow me to interact with elders on a level I had never had the chance to before. I’m proud to say that this has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my college career and that I am so glad I was able to be a part of the Life Course Scholars program before graduating.
