Today, we presented on the Debunking Ageism project. Many people created infographics, videos, and social media to debunk the stereotype that age is just a number and doesn’t limited one’s capabilities. Contrary to popular belief, many elders use social media and are both physically and sexually active. To me, the coolest project was the video that someone shared of what age looks like; it was a compilation of different people who are ages 1, 2, 3, etc. to 100. TO my surprise, many people who were 60’s did not look any different from a 40 year old; age is truly just a number.
Furthermore, we summed up the planning for our Healthy Aging Project: a Walk-A-Thon. We decided to purchase bananas, waters, granola bars, Propel packets, 40 T-shirts, and balloons. There were about 40 RSVSP’s so we are excited for our event. Our event will take place at Balboa Park and start and end at the Senior Lounge. The walk is planned to go through the center of the Park to cover a distance approximately one mile. There will be plenty of rest areas such as benches and shaded land. We looked up the weather and anticipate no rain but an overcast weather.
We met up at Price Center Theater on May 29th before the event. I created a survey asking about their demographics and if they feel connected to the San Diego community, feel connected with others, and encouraged to increase their level of physical activity after the walk.
