Our last choir rehearsal for the year was today, and though it was a bit rough at some points I think it went really well. Cathy asked us to sing separately from the guitar player, Jean, instead of singing with him for this last time because she wanted more music time for the residents. So what we did for this rehearsal was that I printed out the chords for the songs that I felt comfortable singing and I brought my ukulele for us to sing along with. After Jean left, I brought out my ukulele and we started singing songs together. It was hard at first because I did not practice beforehand and I was just winging it, but eventually I got a feel for the songs and the residents sang with us. One of the residents, Mary Lou, was complimenting the four of us saying how young and beautiful we were. She said that she used to be a model and that people would pay her to take pictures of her. She told us that we could be models too and that she would put us on Vogue Magazine. I found what she said to be really sweet and I could tell she was really happy to see us there. Cathy said that the residents are all really happy that we come often even though they don’t express it. Hopefully next year, we will be able to continue to sing at the center, but it will be a bit hard since I’m not sure what my schedule looks like next year. Although Cathy was not able to fax us her surveys in time, we got her survey today. She said that the residents have been very responsive lately and I can tell that she also appreciates us being there. Barrett paid for an expensive dinner for the four of us, and I’m glad we ended our HAP on a good note.
