On January 18, 2017, the Life Course Scholars conducted an external tour of various housing options for seniors in Downtown San Diego. Sites included the New Palace Hotel, a single room occupancy facility (SRO) originally built in 1913, as well as PATH San Diego's Connections Housing and St. Vincent de Paul Village, which both provide housing for the homeless. Housing options exclusively for seniors included the Potiker Family Senior Residence, which has 220 studio units for seniors with targeted outreach to homeless and at-risk seniors with mental illnesses of dual diagnoses, as well as Celadon, which has 250 affordable housing units for seniors with monthly rent ranging from $533 to $879.
