It was our final in-class session before we all ventured off to the healthy aging symposium, where we presented posters on our healthy aging projects. We had a potluck to celebrate the culmination of this wonderful program that I hope and know many more students will join and enjoy. In class, we shared our posters that we all created that detail our HAP;s. Through sharing our poster templates with the class, we were able to gain feedback and advice for final edits before they were printed. Everyone’s poster was rich in content and design, and all showcased the projects well. The posters were then viewed by the public and professionals at a conference that is centered around healthy aging.
We also were able to view everyone’s debunking ageism projects. Everyone was so creative from a video to a website, and even a song, each one effectively dispelled any myths surrounding aging. Beyond that, we were able to participate in a reading discussion, as well as share our final thoughts about our experiences. Beyond debriefing through discussion, we were also able to fill out an end of course survey detailing our experience with this course.
Being a part of the life course scholar program has been an absolute delight, I have grown both in knowledge and as a person, and look forward to using what I gained in this course in my future endeavors. Beyond that, I feel this course is something everyone should have exposure as aging is apart of life, and how we respond and deal with it, effects our health, life satisfaction, and the way we navigate the world. I will miss this course and everyone involved, but I look forward to other students having the experiences I had next year.
