Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the first housing tour due to sickness. I am sure, however, that it was a valuable experience for my fellow scholars to see first-hand the living conditions of a group of seniors in the San Diego community. Multiple housing tours may provide an insight into possible disparities in the standard of living of seniors even in a single community.
I have enjoyed interacting with the elderly ever since I was a little boy. Learning about the way of life, challenges, and culture of the old days is a passion of mine, and conversing with the elderly is always enlightening and fascinating for me. I knew that joining the LCS program will be a fruitful decision out of my reverence for the elderly; as a LCS, I look forward to creating new relationships with the seniors of the San Diego community. In addition, I am interested in ways to improve the quality of life of the elderly. The only way to do so is to be educated about their lives and acquire the ability to visualize life through their lens, and the prospect of learning about aging through the LCS program drew my attention as well. Although I have learned about the biological aspects of aging and the plethora of problems that the elderly face daily, I am certainly still naïve about the topic. I am looking forward to filling many of these gaps in knowledge.
Education about aging applies to all of us. The elderly and millennial populations are often very separated from each other but shouldn't be; the old were young and the young will become old. I wish to apply what I learn from the LCS program in my life in the future.
