Today is the day. It was the last class of the USP 141 series, and I couldn't be more thankful for the holistic educational experience I received by being a part of this cohort. From going to community outreach events, to doing age-friendliness projects to incorporate stakeholders, making creative messages to debunk ageism, and commencing/completing a Healthy Aging Project, there were so many ways in which I was able to learn more about intergenerational conversations and barriers elders face to accessing all encompassing good health.
The Healthy Aging Project I was a part of was the "Walks of Life" Walkathon, and all of the hard work in the pre-planning phase paid off. We had a group of over 45 people from 4 different walking groups show up, and they were all very excited for the event. Many of the elders wanted the course to be longer, and many of them wanted to have this as a reoccurring event, so that's how we knew we could progress this event into something more in the future! Overall, I was very happy with the event, and it was a great way to conversate and learn from the elders while at the same time doing a healthy activity.
I am signing off for now, but will continue to address the needs of elders after this class is over. This was an amazing experience, and I could not be any more grateful.
