This week, we had our second HAP program at Bayside Community Center. I was really looking forward to it because our last event at Potiker was so successful. We had a good turnout at our second event and we even saw a few familiar faces. I feel like we have a good connection with the seniors at Bayside because we have been there a number a times, first for Zumba in winter quarter and this quarter again for a Learning Exchange Group (LEG) meeting. On the day of the event, we got there early to set up. I feel we were more prepared this week and we could organize everything more smoothly. We had similar stations like last time and I was in charge of clicking pictures. The seniors who attended our event were really excited about the succulent jars and like last time, they really enjoyed decorating the jars. Some of them were so happy that they decided to make multiple succulent jars and gift them to their family members. They were also very appreciative of our effort to bond with them. One of the seniors had painted all of our names on her jar and she took lots of pictures with us. She was really interested in getting to know us and wanted us to come back again. What I also really liked about our event that day is that a lot of the seniors stayed back to talk to each other even after they had finished making their jars. I feel like we were really successful at creating a space for some fun conversation and intergenerational bonding.
