On Week 5, we headed back to West center for another Learning Exchange Meeting (LEG) with seniors. We talked to Joy Sun, a wonderful lady who had traveled all over the world. An interesting fact about her is that she picked her own name when she moved to the United States from China. She chose Joy Sun as her name because she is always happy and loves sunshine. Joy Sun did not speak Spanish very well but Sally helped translate for us. She told us that she walks a lot everyday to stay fit. She also tries to stay active by volunteering at the West center a couple of days every week. It was really inspiring to see how much she valued relationships. She said she felt at home in San Diego because of the wonderful friends she made here. She encouraged us to love everyone and everything and pursue our goals fearlessly. It was such a joy talking to her and refreshing to hear her say that she was enjoying life and making the most out of everyday. A few of us also talked to another lady named Talat. She had recently started coming to the West center but she already loved the people there. She told us a little bit about her life in Pakistan, where she grew up. Even though we had a small amount of time with her, I really enjoyed speaking with her. She was really appreciative of our work at trying to build intergenerational relationships and she encouraged us to stay in touch.
