In this week’s class, we visited Casa de Mañana for the second time. This time we had more time to interact with the residents. We had our first Learning Exchange Groups (LEG) where we were divided up into 3 groups and discussed about our ideal intergenerational community. We gave a brief summary of our own neighborhood assessments that we did last quarter. I think they especially found the NAP in La Jolla interesting since they are residents there. We had a great time talking to the elders. They shared their own ideas on what the perfect intergenerational community would be. They said that they would like to see community where everybody is included. They said to have a lot of cross walks and transportation such as shuttles, buses, etc. An interesting idea that the elders had was to have a daycare where the elders took care of the children. They said that intergenerational daycares could help both young and old because the elders would feel like they are a working part of society and that the children would benefit because of the wisdom that they can learn from the elders.
