Class on 9th week did not take most of our lecture. We began by discussing the Casa De Manana dance. As everyone mentioned, it was such a fun experience especially seeing the seniors smile and compliment us on the event. After discussing this dance we also began discussing the details for the next dance at the Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center. I was part of the foods and raffle group of which we agreed to do Cosco pizza, drinks, fruits and cookies. For the raffle prizes we agreed to blankets, maybe some gift cards and mugs. The theme of this event was Prom and we incorporated some St. Patrick’s theme since its just around the corner.
Once we finished discussing the upcoming event we presented our NAP, as mentioned in previous blogs my group and I did our NAP on Barrio Logan. It was very nice visiting this neighborhood and getting to explore it but also talking to people there. The people are very friendly and always greet you with a smile or hello. As we assessed this neighborhood based on the WHO’s framework we came to agreement that the neighborhood is elder friendly but there could be some improvements such as better sidewalks, sewage system and transportation shelters. Our presentation went very good, I just wished that we would have added more pictures. I wanted to show the class all the pictures we had on google drive but it is okay, next time! Regardless everything went smooth and thank you to all my group for the wonderful input. Sylvia did great with making the powerpoint so nice and colorful, I lack at creativity but Sylvia has so much of it and I love it haha (:
After out presentations we had to opportunity to either go home or stay back and discuss options for next quarters project, healthy aging. At the start of the quarter some of the LCS came up with some great ideas and I really liked Kyle’s. His idea was to do some sort of Sip and Paint class at bayside community center. I decided to stick around and discuss with Kyle, Monique and Elizabeth about this aging project. The idea is to have a professional artist go and teach a painting class at Bayside community center and provide some refreshments. As we continued to discuss we knew that getting material for this would be expensive therefor we thought of maybe getting artistic shops to donate material or ask for discounted price and if we have extra money use it to do some sort of fundraiser to assist this community center, there is much to discuss but we will have next quarter to do all this.
