Today we went to the LGBT Community Center in Hillcrest. It was not a senior center but we do meet with lots of seniors there. This community center probably has the largest dinning room that I ever seen in community gardens. The dinning room is really spacious and the design of the room is quite unique, too. There are pictures of veterans on each side of the wall, which reminding everyone of the history here.
I was really surprised by the way those elders treat us. They were so excited and happy to meet us When I join my tablemate in their table I found them really happy to have a student join them. They have a lot of question and they all really interested in my stories such as where I came from and how do I like my major. The man that I talked to has been volunteering in the LGBT community center for about twenty years and he talked about how thing changed during the past twenty years. He said society today definitely is more tolerant towards the LGBT community and more and more straight people started volunteer in the community center too.
After that we started our healthy aging community discussion. They all have a lot to say and I found that they are all really committed to the community that they lived in. It is very impressive that they know the name of the new buildings that jut been built and know the functions and the customers of that new building. The man I talked to even wrote letters to the major several time to report the bad conditions of the sidewalks.
