It was nice to be back in the classroom and hear what everyone has been up to during spring break. I am excited for the healthy aging projects and cannot wait to see how all of these projects turn out. I am a part of the Project LCS (Living, Creating, and Striving) where we plan on creating a day of personal self care and love by providing free haircutting, makeup, and massage therapy for the seniors at the West Center. We learned in class and through our readings last quarter that society has made aging into a disease and beauty industries have created anti-aging products. As a result, we want to challenge these beauty standards and encourage natural beauty and instill confidence through free personal care services. I think this is a great way to not only interact with the seniors by getting to know them, but also we are helping to promote natural beauty within each and every one of the seniors we care for. We want to break down beauty standards and show that no matter what age you are, you are still beautiful. At the end of the mini makeover, we plan on holding a photobooth/ runway for the seniors to showcase their inner and outer beauty. Through this project, we hope to provide a safe space for the seniors to feel good about themselves and also have a great time. My team and I have been very productive and planned out a detailed timeline and event planning for the next few weeks leading up to our event and hope that this project will be a success!
